Golf carts in Tampa: dealers, custom builds, street-legal LSVs and service
Eight Tampa businesses sell, build, rent or repair golf carts. Here is what each one actually does, who it suits, and what you need to know before you buy or drive a cart in Hillsborough County.
Local golf cart context
City of Tampa and Hillsborough County ordinances permit golf cart use on specific designated streets and within certain neighborhoods. Most cart activity is concentrated south of the city in Sun City Center and Apollo Beach; within the city itself, cart use is limited. Check with the City Clerk for current designated streets.
- Climate & batteries
- Gulf coast humidity and summer heat shorten lead-acid battery life to 3-4 years vs a 5-7 year rated spec; lithium conversions are common in the Tampa Bay cart communities.

Tampa is not a golf-cart town the way Sun City Center or The Villages are. Inside the city limits you cannot drive a cart on most public streets, so the local market is built around three things: custom and show carts (Tampa has an unusual concentration of body-kit and custom builders), street-legal LSVs that can be titled and driven in neighborhoods like Davis Islands, Harbour Island, Westchase and the South Tampa grid, and service and parts for the thousands of carts that live in the gated communities ringing the city — Apollo Beach, Riverview, FishHawk, Lutz and Wesley Chapel.
The listings below are grouped the way people actually shop: by what the business is best at. Every card has the phone number and website, and a one-line note on what we found when we looked at each dealer. If a dealer has claimed its listing you will also see the brands it services, whether it does mobile repairs, and whether it takes trade-ins.

Custom golf carts and body kits in Tampa
Tampa is the custom-cart capital of the Gulf coast. Three of the eight businesses on this page build or outfit custom carts, and "custom golf cart body Tampa" is the single most common way people find this page. Two very different things get called custom, so be clear which one you want:
Body kits are fiberglass shells that replace a stock cart's cowls to make it look like a classic car, a muscle car or an old Bronco. Custom Golf Cart Body sells the kits themselves; they fit E-Z-GO, Club Car and Yamaha frames, and most buyers either fit them at home over a weekend or pay a builder a few hundred dollars to do it. Painted and wrapped bodies are usually quoted separately.
Full custom builds start with a new or refurbished chassis and add the lift, wheels, lithium pack, seats, light kit and sound system as one job. Jake's Custom Carts and Golf Carts USA both work this way, and both can deliver a finished cart. A fully built custom in Tampa typically lands between $12,000 and $25,000 depending on the battery and how far you go with the extras. If you want it street-legal as well, say so at the start — see the next section — because adding LSV equipment after the fact is more expensive.

Street-legal LSVs in Tampa: what you can actually drive, and where
This is where Tampa buyers get caught out. A standard golf cart may only be driven on public roads that Hillsborough County or the City of Tampa has specifically designated for cart use, and inside the city limits that is a short list of neighborhood streets. The cart communities south of the city (Sun City Center, Apollo Beach, parts of Riverview) have far more designated routes.
A low-speed vehicle (LSV) is different. It is a factory-built or converted cart that does 20–25 mph, carries a VIN, and is titled, registered and insured like a car. With a plate on it you can drive on any Florida road posted at 35 mph or less — which in Tampa opens up Davis Islands, Harbour Island, Hyde Park, Bayshore side streets, Westchase and most of the South Tampa grid. You need a valid driver's license and PIP/PDL insurance. Golf Carts USA and West Coast Golf Cars both sell LSV-spec carts; Jeffrey Allen and Golf Cart Superstore can also quote them, and any of the custom builders can convert a cart, though a conversion needs an inspection before the DMV will title it.
Budget roughly $18,000–$35,000 for a new street-legal LSV. The 2023 change to Florida law also means anyone under 18 now needs a learner's permit or license to operate even a non-LSV cart on a public road, and adults must carry government ID.

Golf cart service and repair in Tampa Bay
Two Tampa dealers run full service departments: Jeffrey Allen (US-301) and West Coast Golf Cars (N Falkenburg Rd). Both work on carts bought elsewhere, both stock parts, and Jeffrey Allen has a mobile technician for house calls, which is worth asking about if your cart will not move. Golf Cart Superstore services what it sells. For the custom shops, service is mostly limited to their own builds.
The most common Tampa repair is batteries. Gulf-coast heat and humidity cut a lead-acid pack to three or four years instead of the five to seven on the spec sheet, so if you are buying used, ask for the battery date codes and budget $900–$1,800 for a lead-acid replacement or $2,000–$4,500 for a lithium conversion, which most Tampa shops now push because it lasts two to three times longer. Also check the controller and charger on anything that has sat through a summer in an un-air-conditioned garage.
If you are in the suburbs rather than the city, the Sun City Center, Lutz and Wesley Chapel pages list shops closer to you; several do mobile service into Riverview, Brandon and Apollo Beach.

Buying a golf cart in Tampa: dealers, inventory, financing and trade-ins
For a mainstream new cart with a local warranty, start with the two franchise-style dealers: West Coast Golf Cars (E-Z-GO) and Jeffrey Allen (multiple brands, large inventory across its Florida stores). Golf Cart Superstore is the volume choice for new Denago and used carts, and the only one of the three open on Sundays. All three offer financing; expect dealer financing to be easier to get than a bank loan on a cart, but compare the rate.
A basic new four-seater in Tampa runs about $8,000–$12,000; six-seaters and lifted models $12,000–$18,000; street-legal LSVs $18,000–$35,000. Used carts from dealers typically sit at $4,500–$9,000 and come with a short warranty; private-party carts on Marketplace are cheaper but you are on your own for the battery. Most dealers on this page take trade-ins — it is worth getting a trade number from two of them, because trade values on carts vary much more than on cars.
Rentals in Tampa proper are thin: Sweet Ride delivers for events and short-term use, and Jeffrey Allen rents for commercial and event work. For beach or vacation rentals you want the St. Petersburg and Clearwater pages.

Tampa golf cart questions, answered
Can I drive a golf cart on the street in Tampa?
Only on streets the City of Tampa or Hillsborough County has designated for golf carts, which inside the city is a short list of neighborhood roads. A titled, insured low-speed vehicle (LSV) can be driven on any road posted 35 mph or under, which is why most Tampa buyers who want to drive on public roads buy or convert to an LSV.
Who makes custom golf cart bodies in Tampa?
Custom Golf Cart Body on N Trask St builds fiberglass body kits (classic, muscle-car and Bronco styles) that fit E-Z-GO, Club Car and Yamaha carts. Jake's Custom Carts and Golf Carts USA build complete custom carts and can fit bodies, lifts, lithium packs and light kits as one job.
How much does a street-legal golf cart cost in Tampa?
A new street-legal LSV from a Tampa dealer typically runs $18,000–$35,000. Converting an existing cart to LSV spec (lights, mirrors, seat belts, windshield, VIN inspection, title and registration) usually costs $2,500–$5,000 on top of the cart.
Which Tampa golf cart dealers do repairs on carts they didn't sell?
Jeffrey Allen on US-301 and West Coast Golf Cars on N Falkenburg Rd both service carts bought elsewhere and stock parts; Jeffrey Allen also has a mobile technician. Shops that have confirmed their details on this page show their confirmed brands and whether they do mobile service.
How long do golf cart batteries last in Tampa?
Three to four years for a lead-acid pack in Tampa's heat and humidity, against five to seven on paper. Lithium packs last eight to ten years and are now the default recommendation from most Tampa shops; a conversion runs about $2,000–$4,500.
Where can I rent a golf cart in Tampa?
Tampa itself has few rental options: Sweet Ride Golf Cart Rentals delivers for events and short-term use, and Jeffrey Allen handles commercial and event rentals. Beach-style vacation rentals are in St. Petersburg, Clearwater and Anna Maria rather than Tampa.
